in food bank use putting strain on their already fragile donation system –
they often receive a surplus of certain products and a perilous shortage of
Using technology and data we wanted to make donating food smarter and more efficient. We created the ‘Sending Machine’ – a digital vending machine that doesn’t dispense food, but sends it straight to the food bank.
Food bank stock data is collected and analysed and the Machine updates real-time, reconfiguring itself to offer the required products. Passers-by are able to send the right food at the right time. Delivery is synchronized with food bank distribution schedules meaning fresh food can be donated as well as long-life products.
“The Sending Machine has revolutionised our service. And we can now offer healthier food to the people who come through our door.” - Debbie Pemberton, Programme Manager at the First Love Foundation
